As stated by the ONDCP, “Approximately 7.87 percent of Ohio residents reported past-month use of illicit drugs; the national average was 8.82 percent.” Although this number is lower than the national average, there are still many individuals who abuse drugs often and need treatment in order to stop.Free Rehab Centers in Ohio

“The percentage of drug treatment admissions for cocaine has decreased from close to 30% in 2004 to 14% in 2010.” This has led to marijuana currently accounting for almost 40% of all treatment admissions in the state. However, opioid drug treatment admissions are on the rise, increasing from around 1 percent of all admissions in 2001 to nearly 20 in 2010. Furthermore, “in 2009-2010, Ohio was one of the top ten states for past-year non-medical use of pain relievers among persons age 12-17.”

This is a troubling issue. While cocaine can cause an intense addiction syndrome characterized by mental disturbances and the chance for stroke or heart attack when the drug is taken in incredibly high doses, prescription opioids like OxyContin, Vicodin, and Dilaudid, when abused, are extremely dangerous and can lead to fatal respiratory depression as well as addiction.

The more individuals who begin abusing prescription opioids, the more treatment admissions there will need to be, as it can be an extremely difficult addiction from which to recover. According to the NIDA, prescription opioid abusers also have a disturbingly high chance of becoming heroin abusers if their addictions are not treated, as “nearly half of all young people who inject heroin surveyed in three recent studies reported abusing prescription opioids before starting to use heroin.”

In addition to the issue of drug abuse, the average income of Ohio residents is lower than that of the national average while the percentage of persons below the poverty line is higher, according to the United States Census Bureau. Therefore, it is likely that many individuals in the state who need addiction treatment will not be able to pay for the more expensive rehab facilities. This is why there are free rehab centers all across the state where people can receive the treatment they need for no cost at all.

As stated by the NIDA, “Treatment varies depending on the type of drug and the characteristics of the patients.” Individuals who attend free rehab will be given their own personalized treatment programs which usually entail a medication regimen and a behavioral therapy course. Patients may also be given legal, financial, and employment help which will allow them to be more self-sufficient once they leave treatment.

These facilities make an amazing difference in the lives of individuals who, often, would have gone without treatment at all because of the normally high costs. This is a much more effective option, as those who go without any kind of formal addiction treatment program struggle more with the issue of relapse than those who attend rehab.

Free rehab facilities exist in Ohio cities such as Cleveland, Canfield, and Akron as well as any of the other cities listed above. If you are a resident of Ohio and are looking for effective, low-cost treatment, look no further. Choose one of these clinics today, and start your recovery off strong.
